As a local Locksmith here in London Ontario I get to talk to a lot of different people, everyday.
I discovered that a lot of Canadians watch the Olympic Games although they don't necessarily understand them.
They watch the games or at least peek at the scores just to check where we stand as a country. This is not something that is happening in many countries. Obviously there are many countries with big delegations to the Olympics and they follow as well; but things are somehow different here.
We cheer because we are proud of the result even if it's not the best one on the board (excluding hockey - that better be the best!)
It's all simply because we know we are the best, at being equal, at doing what we can for others and being supportive.
Our snowy and harsh winter may be the reason for who we are, because in coldest times you have to stick together and support each other. This is the kind of spirit that brings us the gold!
This thought came to me when I heard the British commentator say "She could do better"
When I switched to a different broadcast (Canadian TV) the comment was different, it was done in our way, in our spirit - "She did her best, and that's what matters"
Go Canada!
