It's 6 am, I get a called to a location where a customer got locked out of his house.
When I arrived at the address I saw an angry person who is frustrated and mad at the world for all the reasons you can imagine.
People tend to drop their bad mood on the first target available and so it happened.
He was angry at me although I came for his rescue, claiming that it takes me too long to get to his house although it wasn't more than 15 minutes. Somehow it feels like it is my fault that he is stuck.
Obviously in his state of mind, he didn't like the price the timing although it was fair and good.
In a situation like this and with this kind of attitude from the customer. You would get mad. You would turn around and tell the customer to go look for someone else to help him. Or at least you would wish to do so.
What I also do know, is I am probably the only Locksmith in London area at the moment. So he doesn't even have someone else to call for.
I decided to put my emotions aside, and told the customer "you can be mad at me, you can swear at me but I am going to help you with a smile and you will be happy in the end. I promise you that"
He had nothing to say.
The lesson is simple, sometimes it's better to say "I am sorry you feel that way and I will do everything to make you feel better" when you say it to a stranger sometimes it does the magic.
